Also the burn-in helped (including my own ). I tried it briefly on my old Sony F542E hifi amp that's driving my monitors (that one's quite punchy), and it already sounded better. I agree that it lacks some oomph and dynamics on the Emu, and I'm sure a better amp would help there. Note that if you're also interested in Waves' new NX room/speaker sim plugin for headphones (it even tracks your head to simulate a 3D environment + move the sound out of your head), Waves have pledged on Gearslutz to add headphone EQ correction to that in an update (though no ETA), so maybe worth holding off buying Sonarworks for now. It's on sale right now at AudioDeluxe ($49 in cart once you sign up). You can get a free 21 day trial of fhe plug here. That would be a cool way to audition the differences: It actually has a HD650 simulation in there! I've never heard them, but if someone has both I'd love to know if it's reasonably close, listening on the HD600. So when some people find the HD600 too bright, they're not completely wrong (if you take 'flat' as the reference)!Įven more interesting: the plugin allows you to simulate various speakers and headphones. Toggling it on and off is a (subtle) revelation. If the correction curve is accurate (and I guess it should be), then it actually reveals how manufacturers tweak a bit of 'bite' even into phones like the HD600 to make them sound more interesting. But also interesting how it slightly blunts areas in the top. Plus you can optionally tweak the spectrum 'tilt' towards bass or treble, apply your own tweaks or house curve etc.įlat impressions: my kick is back!. On the HD600 it also restores the lower bass a good amount (note the low bass extension on the purple line above). It can 'flatten' headphones' freq response. You put this as the last thing in your effects chain, ie. It's a plugin for audio software like DAWs, in VST/RTAS/AAX format (I believe some audio players can also host these plugins): So I'm just testing Sonarworks 3, which has EQ correction curves for popular phones. For mixing that matters (plus it's my preference anyway), and it would be a closer match to my studio setup. I'm used to good studio monitors and my fab KSC-75's, and one thing I am missing though is a bit of kick in the lower bass. But it's growing on me, plus I want them for mixing, so 'enjoyment' isn't that important. Well, I didn't like the sound at first - too tame (I guess the Senn laid-back house sound I remember from some old phones), plus not exciting or analytical enough. It was obviously a refurb but got a good discount.Ĭurrently driving it from my Emu 1616m (recording interface) breakout box. OK, got a new HD600 today (mesh material) from Amazon UK.
